Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Nov. 1900. Garnavillo columns.
Maria Sophia Fritz, nee Sievers, was born Nov. 10, 1828, in Hanover, Germany. In 1849 she crossed the ocean to Pennsylvania, was married to Daniel Fritz and together they journeyed in 1850 to New Bremen, Ohio. Later in 1857 they came to Iowa and have remained ever since. Seven children were born to them of whom four preceded them in death. Those surviving are, Henry, married to Matilda Maurer, John, married to Sylvia Kohls, and Julius, of Talmage, Neb. The deceased was left a widow in 1888 her husband being 62 years, 6 months and 16 days old at the time of his death.
She enjoyed good health until about a year and a half when she became afflicted with that dreadful disease the dropsy, but the good care she received proved a great comfort to her and she bore her trials patiently until the parting hour. Her age was 72 years and 1 day. Rev. Sommerlad conducted the funeral services which took place last Tuesday afternoon. Our sympathy to the sorrowing friends.
"In labor and in love allied,
In death they sleep here side by side,
Resting in peace - the aged twain -
Till Christ shall raise them up again."
