Elkader Register, Thur., 06 Sept. 1900. Local News columns.

Carl Dalstrom, who was struck by the sweep of a grubbing machine one day last week, died from his injuries on Sunday, Sept. 2nd, 1900. Mr. Dalstrom was born in 1830, in the province of Pommern, where in 1857 he married Miss Mandelkow. To them were born eight children, of whom only three sons, Herman, William and August, with the wife survive. Shortly after their marriage they came to this country and during the Civil War the deceased enlisted in the 6th Iowa Cavalry, and saw active service against the Sioux indians. At the close of service he came to Boardman twp. and settled on the farm where he died. He was an honest, upright man and a good citizen, one whose death is sincerely mourned by his family and friends. The funeral was held Tuesday at Clayton Center, Rev. Siefert officiating.

(Note: WPA records indicate Carl F. Dahlstrom, 1830 - 02 Sept. 1900, buried in Clayton Center cemetery.)
