THE REAPER'S WORK - In the prime of manhood, when a bright future was pictured before him, on the morning of Saturday, August 16th, Daniel Davis resignedly yield up his spirit to the angel of death.

For a number of weeks he had uncomplainingly lain upon a bed of suffering. All the aid that kindness could suggest was rendered him; but in vain, death had marked him for his own; and on the following day his mortal remains were followed to the tomb by a large concourse of mourning relatives and friends, and laid to rest beside of those gone before. The last sad rites being conducted by Rev. Perry.

Daniel T. Davis was born in Luzern county, Penn. In March 1854, and in his early childhood with his parents he removed to DeKalb county, Ills., where he remained until 1865, when his parents crossed the Mississippi, and settled in the vicinity of Strawberry Point, which has been his home since.

On February 19, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Griffin, and the union proved a most happy one. Two children were given them to gladden their home, who are now too young to realize their fatherless condition.

The writer has known Daniel Davis ever since his removal to Iowa, and as a school friend, or in business relations has ever found him true, with integrity stamped on his every action. He was a member of the mercantile firm of Davis & Whitmarsh, and had a wide circle of acquaintances, who will sincerely miss him as well as the loved ones of his own [illegible] circle.
