Elkader Register, Thur., 07 Dec. 1922. Strawberry Point column.
The funeral services of Scott Sousley occurred at the M.E. church Friday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. L. C. Kirbry and the remains laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery. Winfield Scott Sousley was born in Ohio, Oct. 1849. When three years of age he came to Iowa witth his parents settling at Strawberry Point where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Simmons. To this union three daughters and son were born, one daughter, Ida, preceded her father in death a number of years ago. Those remaining are Mrs. Orla Klebbe of this place, Mrs. Neola Strattion of Brookings, S.D., and Bert Sousley of Waterloo. Mr. Sousley in his younger years was an active member of the M.E. church. He was a earnest worker in the M.W.A. Lodge. A few days before his death he suffered what was thought to be a paralytic stroke and his sufferings were untold but he bore them as patiently as he could until death relieved him, Tuesday morning. Besides his bereaved wife and children he leaves one sister, Mrs. Anna Pugh of Mederville, also a number of grandchildren, relatives and friends to mourn his passing away of an early pioneer. May he hear the words of the Lord saying, "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of our Lord."
