Funeral services were held Saturday March 26 in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church in Garber for Lewis A. Zearley. Rev. Walter Vonderohe and Rev. Stern of Fredericksburg officiated.
Interment was in the Hansel cemetery, in charge of the Oelke Funeral Home. Mr. Zearley had been in ill health for the past three years, and died Wednesday afternoon, March 23.
Mr. Zearley was born in Mallory township on January 28, 1870 the son of John and Mary Zearley. He was one of a famiy of seven. On August 10, 1892 he married Alta Bowman at Updegraff. They becmae the parents of two children.
Mr. Zearley lived in and around Garber all his life. He taught school for a few years, served as postmaster of Garber for 19 years. In 1898 he entered the mortician profession. He remained active in business until 1947. Mr. Zearly was one of the organizers of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed congregation in Garber.
Mrs. Zearley preceded him in death in 1943.
Mr. Zearley is survived by his two sons, Jim and Ray, both of Garber, as well as a brother Will of Spearfish, S. Dakota, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, fifteen nieces and nephews.
