Guttenberg Press, March 30, 1950. Elkport- Ida Finnegan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Wood was born in Read township March 23, 1860. She grew to womanhood in the township and attended the rural schools there.
On August 2, 1881, she was married to Michael Finnegan at Elkader, and they were the parents of five children.
Mr. Finnegan died November 25, 1914, and two of the children died in infancy. For some time the family lived on a farm near Colesburg. After the death of Mr. Finnegan, she moved to Elkport where she since has made her home.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Robert Saunders, pastor of St. Michael's church in Garber, and burial was in St. Josephs cemetery in Elkader. Pallbearers were James McLane, Frank Scheffert, Raymond Conley, Charles Peuker, Fred Wathen and C. P. Krieg.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Addie Berns of Elkport, and two sons, Henry of Colesburg, and Ray at home. Grandchildren surviving are Harold Berns of Elkport, Zala Berns of Dubuque, and Wallace, and J. H. Finnegan of Colesburg. She also is survived by a brother, A. A. Wood of Timber Lake, South Dakota, and a sister Mrs. Lillian Krinkle of Charles City, Ia.
