Elkader Register, Thur., 08 June 1922.

Richard Leonard passed away very suddenly Monday evening at his home, one mile north of Elkader, of heart failure.

Mr. Leonard was preparing to come to town Monday forenoon to cast his vote, but was taken suddenly ill.

He was born January 28th, 1857, in New York City, as the son of John and Sarah Leonard and passed away at his home Monday evening at the age of sixty-five years, four months and eight days.

He came with his parents to this county in 1875 and the family settled on what is known as the Hopp farm, where he has resided ever since.

On March 22nd, 1882, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Wagner and three children came to gladden their home. John Henry and Fanny Isabelle preceding their father in death. The only child living is Benjamin, residing here in Elkader.

Besides these he is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alf. Albrecht of Mederville, and Mrs. Louis Meder of Tuttle, Okla., and three brothers, Charles of St. Paul, and Joseph and Fred of this place, and one granddaughter.

One brother preceded him in death a number of years ago.

Mr. Leonard always took an active part in community improvements. He was for many years connected with the management of the Elkader Fair and Track Association, also the Elkader Co-Oper. Commission Co.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, services being held at the home of the deceased, with interment in the East Side cemetery. Rev. W. J. Warner of the Congregational church officiating.

Our sympathy goes out to the sorrowing family.
