Elkader Register, Thur., 11 May 1922. Strawberry Point column.

Fred Glass was born April 29, 1858, at Ft. Atkinson, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On Feb. 20, 1883, he was married to Miss Mary Kratz of Cresco. After his marriage he purchased a farm about two miles east of town and moved there in September 1889. He lived continuously on the farm thirty years. In 1919 he purchased a home in town and retired from the farm. During the year 1919 he and Mrs. Glass and son Howard took an overland trip to California where he spent most of a year. On returning home his health gradually failed. Doctors were consulted and it was discovered he had a goiter. Sept. 15, 1921, he went to Rochester where he underwent an operation in the Mayo Bros. Hospital from which he gained much relief. Last month, April 17, he again went to Rochester and submitted to another operation. Complications set in and he passed away Thursday evening and the remains were shipped here Saturday via Oelwein. He leaves his bereaved wife and six sons, Edward and Carl of Geyser, Montana, Leonard and Rupert of Dundee, and Jerome of this place and Howard of Arlington. Also six brothers and three sisters, Chas. Glass of Ft. Atkinson, Philip Glass of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. A. Richter of Anaheine, Cal., Mrs. Mike Kratz of Cresco, Lawrence Glass, Miss Mary Glass and Will Glass of this place, Albert Glass of Dundee and Dan Glass of Sumner. A large crowd gathered at the Lutheran church Monday afternoon to the funeral services conducted by his pastor Rev. Fritschel to pay their last respects to a man respected by all. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery. A good man has gone to his reward. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
