John Francis Looney was born in Grand Meadow township, Clayton County, Iowa, in 1880, and died at his home in the same locality on Tuesday, April 25, 1922, at the age of 42 years. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Looney, the father having died about 13 years ago. He was married to Margaret Ellen Dunn of Elkader in 1912. This union was blessed with 3 children, on son and two daughters, who with his wife, his aged mother, two brothers, Thomas nd Edward, and five sisters, Mayme, Rosella, Estella, Hannah and Mrs. T. C. Dunn survive him. Mr. Looney was an honest and upright man and diligent farmer, a good citizen, neighbor and friend. As a husband and father he was kind and indulgent and being of a genial disposition he numbered his friends almost by his acquaintances. The funeral was held Thursday morning last from the Catholic Church in Monona, conducted by the Rev. J. Clune of Postville, who paid a splendid tribute to the memory of deceased. Interment was in the cemetery at Monona. Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were James and Edward Colliton of Minneapolis, Justin and Carlton McCarthy of Dubuque.
