Clayton County Register, Thur., 21 Dec. 1933. Locals columns.

It has pleased the Almighty God to call from time into eternity, Mrs. Friederike Lahrs. She was born April 3rd, 1849, as youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kruse in Luhmannsdorf, Germany. In 1871, she was united in marriage to Mr. Christian Lahrs. Like many others at that time the couple migrated to the United States in 1874, and settled first in Clayton Center. From here they moved after 12 years to a farm where they lived for twenty-three years. God blessed this union with eight children of whom one died in infancy.

Mr. Christian Lahrs was called away by death on the 22nd of January 1909. two of his children followed him later on. Mrs. Fred Wilker, his daughter, died in 1919, and his son, Charley Lahrs, in the spring of 1932.

Thus Mrs. Lahrs was left alone and made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Julius Heins, at Postville, where she stayed for twenty-three years. Here with her daughter and son-in-law she found the so necessary love and care. From here she went out here and there, and visited her children who are mostly living in this community. It was at the home of her children at Postville that our God has called her away on the 14th of December, at midnight. Her whole lifetime was 84 years, 8 months and 12 days. May she rest in peace and the eternal light shine upon her.

Mrs. Lahrs leaves to mourn: her children Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lahrs, nee Vogt; Mr. and Mrs. August Wilke, nee Lahrs; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Breitsprecher, nee Lahrs; Mr. John Lahrs; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Heins, nee Lahrs, of Postville; Mrs. Charley Lahrs, nee Glawe; and Mr. Fred Wilker as son-in-law. Furthermore sixteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Our God comfort all those who mourn. Teach them and all of us that we have to die that we may become wise. May we during this time of grace take the Christ child into our hearts so that we may die in the arms of our blessed Redeemer.

Services were held at the home in Postville by the Rev. R. Garten, DD, and at the church at Clayton Center by the local pastor. Interment was made in the new cemetery, the Rev. Berthold F. Korte officiating.
