STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Sherman Hendershot were held at the farm residence Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, pastor of the Strawberry Point Methodist church. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery, the I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, had charge of services at the grave. The casket bearers were: Harry Lincoln, Gus Fry, George Gerdes, Harley Everett, Greenberry Carnicle and Thomas R. Jewell.
Sherman Hendershot, eldest son of Ebenezer and Isabelle Hendershot, was born near Thorpe, Iowa, Dec. 27, 1880, and passed away at his home near Strawberry Point, after an illness of several years, Nov. 27, 1933, at the age of 52 years, having lived all his life in this vicinity.
He was married Dec. 18, 1901, to Miss Anna L. Kelsey, at Lamont. They have lived the past twenty-nine years on the farm where he died. A nephew, Arthur Wilkins, was raised in their home as a son, from eight years till he was married, and now lives on the Hendershot farm. He leaves his bereaved wife and two sisters, Mrs. George Troupe of Minnesota, and Mrs. Lucy White of Portland, Ore.; his nephew, Arthur Wilkins, of Strawberry Point; besides other nephews, nieces and friends. Mr. Hendershot was always a neighbor and a friend, ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He was a lover of all nature, the birds, flowers and trees, a lover of all God's handiwork. He suffered much the past two years, but always in patience. He had a happy smile for everybody. He had a happy home and wanted to live. He was a man of upright character, honored and respected by all, and will be much missed in the home and neighborhood.
