MONONA: Chris Johnson, one of Monona's most highly respected citizens, passed away Saturday night, having been in poor health for a number of months. He was born July 16, 1853, in Norway, and was 80 years old. He was married to Miss Johanna Gunderson while in Norway, and they came to this country fifty-three years ago, locating first at St. Olaf, and came to Monona in 1892. His wife died three years ago. Mr. Johnson was a faithful worker for the Milwaukee railroad, having worked longer probably than any other man in this vicinity, 41 years.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are four daughters: Mrs. Charles Montgomery of Sheldon; Mrs. Murtina Daley of Canada; Mrs. C. C. Richards of Des Moines; and Mrs. K. W. Rash of Monona, with whom he made his home and who faithfully cared for him during his illnesses; and one son, John Johnson, of Marquette; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Engen of Mimidji, Minn., and two brothers, Charles of Forest City, and Ole of Bagley, Minn. He has ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the First Methodist church, the Rev. Louis H. Joslin officiating, with burial in the city cemetery.
