EDGEWOOD: John Coombs was born Feb. 8, 1863, in Illinois, and came to this community in young manhood, where he has lived until the time of his death, which occurred at the University hospital in Iowa City the morning of Nov, 15, 1933, at the age of 70 years, nine months and seven days.
On December 4, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Schweikert, at Glenhaven, Wis. They celebrated their golden wedding wedding last December. To this union 11 children were born, one dying in infancy, and one son, Henry, preceding him in death, at the age of 17 years.
Mr. Coombs entire life has been spent in this vicinity, where he has many friends who regret his death. He leaves to mourn his wife, two sons, Edward of Edgewood, and Frank of Greeley; seven daughters, Mrs. Floyd Totman of Edgewood, Mrs. Burt Neimo of Elk, Mrs. Edgar Knapp of Fullerton, Nebr., Mrs. Ray Hansel of Wood, Mrs. Hulsa Sabin of Elk, Mrs. Walter Johnson of Garber, Mrs. Harry Resor of Dubuque, and 41 grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at eleven o'clock at the Elk Center school, following a brief service at the Ed. Coombs home. Rev. S. W. Halfhill officiated and music was rendered by C. J. Rulon and Don Rhines. Burial was made in the Mt. Harmony cemetery.
