GUTTENBERG: Bernard Lueck, retired farmer, who had been making his home with his sister, Mrs. Theodore Berns, and family, here, for the past 25 years, was found dead in bed last Thursday, the cause of his death being a heart attack. His sudden death came as a shock to all in this community, as he had not been ill. He retired the night before his death, and when he failed to arise as usual, members of the Berns family, after calling to him, went to his room and found him dead in bed. Mr. Lueck was 66 years, six months and 13 days of age when death called him to the great beyond. He was born on a farm near New Vienna, Dubuque county, Iowa, on April 19, 1867, where he grew to manhood. For many years he was successfully engaged in farming in Dubuque county. Twenty-five years ago he retired and came to Guttenberg to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Theodore Berns, and family, where the remainder of his life was spent. Mr. Lueck was a man of kind disposition and was a good citizen. To know him was to like and respect him. His death is deeply mourned by three sisters, Mrs. Theodore Berns of this city; Mrs. John Hoeger and Mrs. Jacob Sumner of New Vienna, and numerous other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss this good and true Christian man. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church here Saturday morning, after which the body was taken to New Vienna and laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery there. The funeral was attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high regard by all who knew him.
