Simeon R. Munger passed away October 18, 1933, following a brief illness at the home of his son Forest at Jacksonville, Fla., where he had gone a few weeks before to spend the winter. His remains were returned to Oelwein, where they were laid to rest by those of his wife who had preceded him in death December 10, 1927.

Mr. Munger was born in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, June 27, 1851, the son of M. E. Munger and Jane Glazier Munger. May 15, 1866, he came to Elkader with his parents. He was educated in the public schools and grew to manhood in this community. His trade was that of a carpenter and builder, which vocation he followed, except for a brief period in his earlier life which he devoted to farming. In 1903 he moved with his family to Oelwein, where he made his home until the death of his wife, following which he divided his time between the children in Nebraska and Florida.

On November 17, 1873, he was united in marriage to Polly Anne Cain of Cox Creek township. To this union were born five sons and one daughter, all of whom are living. Dr. Irvin C. and Dr. Arbor D. of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mrs. Juanita Rowland of Dorchester, Nebr.; Dr. Milo W. of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; the other two sons, Clinton F. and Forest H. live in Jacksonville, Fla. Besides these six children he leaves 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Milo E. Munger, of Elkader, and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Woodson of Arlington, as well as a number of nephews and nieces and a host of long-time friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Munger was for many years an active member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and always took a keen interest in its ritualistic work. Early in life he embraced the Christian religion, uniting with the Methodist church, and continued a faithful member and a loyal supporter of its principles to the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at Oelwein Sunday, Nov. 22nd.
