Clayton County Register, Thur., 21 Sept. 1933. Littleport column.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 9:30 in Sacred Heart church for Geo. Meyer, who passed away in a hospital in Chicago Tuesday night. Mr. Meyer was a resident of Littleport for several years and had many friends here who were shocked to hear of his death, as many were unaware of his illness, as he had just concluded a several weeks visit in Littleport about six weeks ago, and returned to his home in Villa Park.

Born in Bavaria, Germany, Sept. 5, 1849, he came to America when 24 years old and settled in Dubuque, where he had employment for several years, then farmed in Clayton county for about 40 years. On Nov. 4, 1880, he was married to Regina Eberhard. Eight children were born to this union, four of whom, with the mother, preceded him in death. Four survive as follows: Mrs. Laurence Funk and Mrs. Ray Purvis of Chicago, Frank and Jos. Meyer of Guttenberg, and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Meyer left Littleport about 11 years ago to make his home with his daughter, Anna, Mrs. Lawrence Funk. It was his custom to visit Littleport every summer and spend several weeks among his friends, who will miss those visits.

Father Goetzinger read the requiem mass and officiated at the services at the grave, burial being made in Sacred Heart cemetery in the family lot. Casket bearers were Fred Behrens, C. C. Pust, Wm. Hakert, John Zapf, Louis Winch and J. P. Zapf.

(Note: Mr. Funk's given name was spelled both ways in the article, as shown here.)
