Guttenberg: Funeral services for Emil Frey, pioneer resident of Guttenberg, were conducted by the Rev. D. D. Welch at the Frey home in this city Friday afternoon, with burial in the city cemetery. At the grave the local Masonic lodge had charge of the services. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high regard by all who knew him. Mr. Frey passed away at his home here Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5th, at 4:30 o'clock, at the age of 82 years, four months and 27 days, the cause of his death being mostly due to the infirmities of old age. He was born at Guttenberg on April 7, 1851. With the exception of residing two years in Chicago, and three years at Tampa, Florida, Mr. Frey's entire ambitious life was spent in Guttenberg. On Nov. 13, 1873, almost 60 years ago, he was married at Guttenberg to Miss Anna Fricke. His occupation was that of a mill-wright for many years and until a few years ago, when he retired, he was employed as such by the Ed. P. Eberhard Lumber and Butter Tub Co. here. For a number of years he was also successfully engaged in the carpenter and contracting business in this locality.
He was Guttenberg's oldest Oddfellow, having been a member of Guttenberg lodge No. 126, I.O.O.F., for the past 57 years. He was also a member of Prairie La Porte lodge No. 147, A.F. & A.M., for over 50 years. His death is deeply mourned by his wife, one son, Thomas Frey; one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Morrill, both of Guttenberg; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Charles Beutel, of Guttenberg, and many other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true citizen will be sadly missed.
