Karl Martin Asmus, a resident of this community for the last 44 years, died at his country home on Friday afternoon, Sept. 8th, after having a stroke just one week ago.
Mr. Asmus was the son of Fred Asmus and Caroline, nee Kreuger, and was born in Germany, March 9, 1865. Mr. Asmus received his education, was baptized and confirmed in Germany. He came to America in the year 1889 and settled in Colesburg, Iowa. On Feb. 22, 1900, he was united in marriage to Maria Schrampfer. Three children were born to this union, August, Henry and Walter. August preceded him in death in the year 1918. In the year 1917 Mr. Asmus moved to the farm on which he passed away.
He leaves to mourn his departure besides his widow and two sons, the following brothers and sister: Gustav Asmus, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Ed. Meisner of Elkader; and Frank Asmus of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. The deceased reached the age of 68 years, five months and 29 days.
Services were held from the home Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, at 1:00 o'clock and from the Evangelical church at 2:00. Interment at East Side cemetery, with the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
