Clayton County Register, Thur., 21 Sept. 1933. St. Olaf columns.

Embret Embretson was born in Eggedahl, Norway, July 27, 184_ (looks like 1848 or 1849). When he was but a year old his parents, Ole and Guro (Gronhovd) Embretson, immigrated to this country. They settled in Wagner township, Clayton county, where he grew to manhood. In June, 1880, he was married to Bertha Larson, and to this union six children were born, two dying in childhood. In 1895 he was married to Nellie Helgeson, and to this union three children were born, one dying in infancy.

Mr. Embretson was one of the pioneer business men in St. Olaf, establishing the first creamery, general store and lumber yard. He also served as postmaster for a number of years. During his life he was a faithful member and an ardent worker in Norway Congregation of the Norwegian Lutheran church, of which his parents were charter members. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of his church. Ungrudgingly he gave of his time for the church work without thoughts of reward, except as he felt that his Master approved of his actions. He built his sole hope of salvation on Christ alone and his merits, and was fully resigned to His will to the very last. He died at his home in St. Olaf, Sept. 10th, at the age of 84 years, one month and two weeks. He is survived by his widow, four daughters, Geneva (Mrs. K. H. Knudson), Perrine, Ella (Mrs. Oscar Thompson), all of St. Olaf, and Adelia (Mrs. T. A. Johnson), of Manning, N. Dak., and two sons, Philmon and Edwin both of St. Olaf, also two grandchildren, Carn Bjorn and Paul Embert. He also leaves to mourn his death a sister, Mrs. L. W. Larson, of Fosston, Minn., Lars, of Kalispell, Mont., and Louie of St. Olaf; two sisters, Anna and Mrs. Jakob Larson, and three brothers, Knut, Otto, and Henry preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Norway church, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17th, Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating, and was largely attended by the people of the community, to whom Mr. Embretson's passing is a distinct loss. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral, besides Mrs. L. W. Larson, of Fosston, Minn., were Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Garber of Jackson, Minn., who have been close friends of the deceased for many years.
