Ida Johanna Friederica Blietz was born at Bresewitz, Mecklenburg-Schwwerin, Germany, May 13, 1858. Her parents were Jochen Kuhlow and Wilhelmina, nee Rohmer. She had but one brother, who died during military service in Germany.
She was married to William Blietz, Nov. 5, 1878. Mr. Blietz continued as laborer in a brick factory until their emigration to America in 1883. They first settled in Read township, where, for six years, Mr. Blietz worked on various farms. At the end of this time they established their home in Jefferson township, eventually coming into possession of their own farm. In 1909 residence was taken up and since then maintained in Garnavillo.
Mrs. Blietz had not been well for years and endured much suffering caused by a complication of various illnesses. Her age, at the time of her death, was 75 years, three months and 11 days. She was the mother of four children, of whom one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Kruse died at her home at Luana in January of last year. Her husband, one son, Bernhardt, of Marcus, Iowa, and two daughters: Mrs. Emma Tucke, Guttenberg, and Elizabeth who still resides in the parental home, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren mourn her passing.
Burial services were held at St. Paul's Evan. Lutheran Church at Garnavillo, at 2 o'clock, Saturday afternoon. Interment was made at the Garnavillo cemetery.
