Rites for Guttenberg Native

Word has been received of the death of Ewald W. Beermann, long-time West Union resident, on Sept. 14 at the hospital in Webster City. He had been a patient there for 11 days, but had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Beermann and his wife had been visiting at the home of their daughter in Webster City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p. m. on Sept. 17 at the foster Funeral Home in Webster City with the Rev. V. Clay Noah, Jr., officiating. Graveside rites were held later Saturday afternoon at the West Union cemetery with the Rev. Noah officiating and Masonic rites held. Pallbearers were his six grandsons, Bryce Beermann, West Union; Gary Beermann, Rochelle, Ill.; Roger Beermann, Postville; Ron Beermann, Waverly; Don Johnston, Ames, and Terry Johnston, Webster City. An alternate pallbearer was a great-grandson, Scott Beermann, Rochell, Ill.

Ewald W. Beermann, son of Louis and Mathilda Mueller Beermann, was born on May 8, 1889, in Guttenberg. He was reared and educated in that community. On Dec. 15, 1909 he married Lola E. Fritz at

West Union. He served as depot agent in Spring Grove, Minn., and was a deputy treasurer and then county treasurer at West Union. The family then moved to Webster City where Mr. Beermann was office manager at the Royal 400 company and later became assistant plant manager in charge of accounting at the Hart Carter company until his retirement in 1954. At that time he and his wife returned to their home in West Union.

Mr. Beermann was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Guttenberg, transferred his membership to United Methodist church at West Union, and at the time of his death was a member of the Frist Baptist church in Webster City. he was also a 50-year member of the Modern Woodmen of America and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of West Union.

Surviving are his widow, Lola; three children, Delwin Beermann, West Union; Donald Beermann, Des Moines; Mrs. Jean (Dorothy E.) Johnston, Webster City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two cousins, Mrs. Hulda Weseman and Mrs. Elsie Bissell, Guttenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters.
