_______August Dietrich Homan, native of the Guttenberg community, died Thursday, April 19, at his home here following an illness which had extended over several months but which had not become critical until about a week before his passing.
Rites from St. John’s
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from St. John’s Lutheran church in charge of Rev. William Domres, pastor of the church, and burial was in the City cemetery.
Mr. Homan was born near Guttenberg March 19, 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Homan. On January 8, 1895, he married Anna Aulwes at St. John’s church and the couple moved to the family farm where they lived until 1903 when they sold the farm and moved to Guttenberg.
Railroader for 30 Years
After moving to Guttenberg he worked for a number of years in the excelsior factory and later worked for the railroad for 30 years. He was retired at the age of 65 years.
Mr. Homan is survived by Mrs. Homan and two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Bissell of Elkader and Mrs. Hulda Weseman of Guttenberg. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, William Beerman and Louis Beerman.
