Clayton County Register, Thur., 20 July, 1933.

Wednesday afternoon, July 12, the sad and quiet funeral of Verneeta Vivian Alderson was held from the family residence in Mederville at 2 o'clock. Verneeta, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Alderson, was born May 24th (year not given), and lived her entire young and happy life in that community. She had received her education in the Mederville grade school and the Elkader public school, where she was a Junior. She was very active in all school activities and was thought very much of by her schoolmates and friends. Her lasting friendships were because of her pleasing and loving personality.

The Rev. Paul Kitterer of Elkader officiated throughout the services. In his sermon he stressed that it was God's wish to take this young girl from our community, where she was thought very much of. Schoolmates and young friends of Verneeta acted as casket bearers, honorary casket bearers and flower girls. (There followed a long list of these individuals, several of whom sang various songs during the services.)

Verneeta Vivian Alderson is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Alderson, one sister Wilma, her grandfather, Wm. G. Bente, all of Mederville, her grandmother, Mrs. Susan Alderson of near Strawberry Point, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Burial was made in the Mederville cemetery. Many friends and relatives from all neighboring towns attended the funeral.

(Note: She died as the result of a double drowning, an account of which appeared in this papers previous weeks edition.)
