Mrs. J. M. Morse died at 10:45 Tuesday morning, May 23rd, at the home of U. S. Clark, where she has had rooms for some time. She had been gradually failing in health, due to a complication of ailments, coupled with a weakened heart, but has been able to be around and fairly active for one of her age until about two weeks ago. Heart failure was given as the direct cause of her death. She ha reached the age of 79 years.
Anna Rienow was born at Buffalo, New York, May 9th, 1854. She came west with her parents when a young girl and lived in North McGregor (now Marquette), and Prairie du Chien, Wis. On Sept. 14th, 1875, she was married at Prairie du Chien, to Josiah M. Morse, a freight conductor in the employ of the C.M. & St. P. railway. They made their home in North McGregor most of the time until 1889, when Mr. Morse became the conductor on the Elkader branch and they moved to Elkader. Mr. Morse died Nov. 24, 1926.
Mr. and Mrs. Morse were the parents of but one child, a daughter, Jessie, who grew to a lovely young womanhood and married Dr. A. E. Beyer of Guttenberg. Her death occurred April 5, 1913.
Mrs. Morse's life has been rich; rich in years; rich in companionship with her husband; rich in service to her family and relatives, brothers, sisters and nephews, who knew her as almost a second mother; rich in friendships. She was a member of the Congregational church here, the Order of the Eastern Star and the P.E.O. sisterhood.
Mrs. Morse is survived by two brothers, Dean Robert Rienow of Iowa City, and George Rienow of Rapid City, S.D.; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Evans of Iowa City, and four nephews, Lyle and Clarence Benn of Kansas City, Mo., Dr. Robert Morse of Elkader, and Lyle Morse of Los Angeles, Cal.
The funeral services will be held at the Congregational church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. Charles Brewster officiating, and interment will be beside her husband in the East Side cemetery.
