The deceased, Mrs. Elizabeth Possehl, nee Kamps, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kamps and was born in Switzerland on the first day of October, 1860; and died May first at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bente, near Edgewood, Iowa.
Mrs. Elizabeth Possehl received her education in Switzerland. She came to America when a young lady and in the year 1879 she was united in marriage to Christian John Possehl in the state of Ohio. The deceased came to Clayton county with her husband in the year 1889.
The following children were born to this union: Mrs. John Bente of Strawberry Point; Henry Possehl and Mrs. Sophia Richert of Elkader, and Adolph of Edgewood. William, Rudolph and John preceded her in death.
The deceased spent the greater part of her life on the farm and lived in the following places: Clayton Center, Elkader and Littleport. Her husband preceded her in death.
Mrs. Possehl was baptized and confirmed and a member of the Lutheran church at Clayton Center. Deceased was visiting her daughter, Mrs. John Bente, for the past three weeks and was enjoying good health until a few hours before her death. She reached the age of 72 years and seven months.
Besides the above named children she leaves to mourn her departure four sisters and one brother, all residing in the state of Ohio; Rose, Annie, Mattie, Mary and Rudy; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
Services were held from the John Bente home near Edgewood at 1:00 o'clock Wednesday and from the Evangelical church, Elkader, at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in Clayton Center. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated.
