John Peter Broel died here Wednesday, May 3d, at the home of Mrs. Lucy Hand after an illness of six days of influenza and heart attack.
The deceased was born August 3d, 1880, on a farm near Volga City, the son of John Peter and Hanna Broel and thus had reached the age of 52 years and nine months at the time of his death.
He received his education in the country schools of his township, but never married. For the last eight years he has made Elkader his home and during the last seven years of that time he has managed the Hand's pool hall here. His simplicity of manner and his sterling honesty were his outstanding were his outstanding characteristics and he was always faithful in the performance of his duties.
Funeral services were held last Saturday forenoon from St. Joseph's church, where the Knights of Columbus, of which he was a member, attended in a body. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
He is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Emma Meyer, Elkader; Mrs. Elizabeth Mentzel, Volda; and Mrs. Hanna Breitsprecher, Fort Dodge.
