Herman Christopher Kuenzel died in Garnavillo Sunday, March 19, following an illness of only a few days, at the age of 79 years, five months and five days.
Mr. Kuenzel was born in Garnavillo township October 14, 1855, the son of John Henry and Anna (Mohrman) Kuenzel. He received his early education in the Garnavillo public school and on July 6, 1884, was united in marriage in Garnavillo to Miss Nellie Wallser. One son, Weber B., was born to this union.
During his life he lived in St. Louis, Clinton and several Nebraska cities, but since 1918 he has resided in Garnavillo where he operated a drug store. He was an active citizen in Garnavillo, serving that community as its mayor, postmaster, member of the school board, president of the cemetery association and as a director of the Garnavillo Savings bank.
Besides his widow and the one son he is survived by two grandchildren, Norris and Calvin Kuenzel; two brothers, Edward C., of Davenport, C. Henry of Dubuque, and one sister, Mrs. Anna M. Harberg of Garnavillo.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 21, with interment in the Garnavillo cemetery, the Rev. G. Bunge officiating.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Joe Wallser and Ed. Kuenzel of Davenport, and Henry Kuenzel of Dubuque.
