Covil Baylis was born in McGregor, Iowa, January 16, 1856, when the community was in its early days of pioneers and privations.
Until nine years ago, he continued to make his home here, moving to Chippewa Falls, Wis., where his death occurred Jan. 6th, 1925, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 6 days.
He was married at McGregor, June 20, 1876, to Louisa Davidson, who preceded him in death Feb. 9, 1922.
He leaves to mourn his death, three children, Fannie and Charles Baylis, and May (Mrs. George Peterson), two grand children, Louisa Peterson and Barbara Baylis; and one sister, Mrs. Josie Barkley, of Raynesford, Mont.
The funeral was held Friday, Jan. 9th at Bateman, Wis., Church, with interment at Bateman Cemetery. The services were conducted y Rev. Brenner, assisted by the I.O.O.F. of Chippewa Falls.
Mr. Baylis was a highly respected citizen, ambitious and thrifty, and his taking away is a loss to the community where he lived.
