The deceased, Earnie Harry Moon, was born March 15, 1901 in Monona township, Clayton county, Iowa, as one of six children of Harry Moon and his wife Tenna, nee Muller.
In early infancy he was baptized into the name of the triune God. His entire life was spent in the place of his birth. When he had attained the proper age he attended both pubic and religious school. When he had reached the proper age he renewed the covenant of his baptism through the rite of confirmation.
On April 20, 1921, he was united in marriage to Bertha Lienau. They moved to the farm which was to be his home until his death.
For many years he had been a faithful member of the St. John Lutheran church here in Farmersburg, serving on the church council, as chairman of the church council, as also serving on various committees. He was also a faithful member of the choir.
The deceased also took an active interest in community affairs. At the time of his death he was vice-president and member of the board of directors of the Luana Cooperative Creamery company.
Mr. Moon died very suddenly and unexpectedly last Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 11, 1955. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Viola) Brown, West Covina, Calif.; Mrs. Harlin (Ethel) Miller, Monona; and Mrs. Harland (Shirley) Kutzbach of Farmersburg; three sons, Donald of Monona, Dwayne of McGregor, near National and Vernis of Monona; eighteen grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hugo (Esther) Vogt of Farmersburg; four brothers, Roy of Luana, Floyd Harold and Arthur of Monona; nephews and nieces besides other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. at the family home and 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church, Farmersburg. Burial was at Monona.
Pallbearers were: Dennis Schmelzer, Hubert Lenth, Alvin Dettman, Otmar Bruns, Palmer Brownson, Hallet Baade, Harold Lenth and Carl Johnningmeier.
