Clayton County Register, Thur., 26 July 1928. Pg. 1.

The subject of this sketch, William Possehl, passed away at his home in Elkader, Iowa, on Friday, July 20th, at 6:30 o'clock a.m., at the age of 44 years, four months and 16 days.

David John William, son of Christian Possehl and his wife, Elizabeth, nee Kempf, was born at Orrville, Ohio, where he worked on the farm first; then turning his attention to the building of barns and silos. His work gave evidence of the fact that he was quite efficient and successful as carpenter and mason

On November 1st, 1905, he was united in marriage to Mabel A. Carpenter, at Elkader, Iowa. Six children, five boys and one girl, were born to this union, of which two preceded their father in death - Helen Elizabeth was called in infancy, and Raymond, aged seven years, passed away during the "Flu and Pneumonia" epidemic in December, 1918, when the entire family was sick.

Three years ago last September, the family moved to Elkader from Cox Creek township, where they had resided so far.

Mr. Possehl was of a rugged constitution, and a hard worker, but about a year ago the first symptoms of the malady for which science has not yet been able to find an effective remedy in spite of all efforts made. Nothing was left undone to give comfort and relief. For the last few months the faithful wife and life's companion was constantly at his bedside, giving such loving and unceasing care, as (next 4-5 words blurred.). Whenever necessary the mother, children, relatives and friends were ready and willing to assist.

Realizing the fact that his days upon the earth were numbered, Mr. Possehl "set his house in order" and made the necessary preparations for the last summons which came as a relief, on Friday morning, July 20th, 1928.

He is survived by his faithful wife, Mabel A., nee Carpenter, and four children: Oscar, married to Evelyn Olson; Rudy, Ralph and Alva at home.

He also leaves the aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Possehl, of Littleport, Iowa; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. John Bente of Edgewood, Iowa, Henry Possehl and Mrs. George Rickert, of Cox Creek township; and Adolph Possehl, of Edgewood, Iowa, and other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.

The most sincere sympathy of the community goes out to the family in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 22nd, at the late home and in the Evangelical church, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the Mederville cemetery.
