Mrs. Kate Maley was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, June 13, 1858. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Leonard. She passed away at her home in Elkader Tuesday evening, July 3rd. Mrs. Maley was united in marriage to Michael Maley at St. Andrew's church at Cincinnati on Oct. 16, 1879. To this union were born four children, Mrs. P. J. Hyde, Mrs. John McGee, John and Ella Maley, all of Elkader. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Wiley of Edgewood and eight grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death thirty-eight years ago.
Mrs. Maley was a woman of simple tastes, with unlimited courage in meeting the problems of life. Her entire life was devoted to the wants of others. Her own personal needs were easily satisfied. She was a person of deep religious convictions, always possessing a keen respect for what was right and good.
"Grandma" Maley will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services took place at St. Joseph's church, Elkader, Iowa, on Friday morning, July 6th, Rev. James Taken, officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's cemetery.
