Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 July 1928. Strawberry Point column.
Last Wednesday evening occurred the death of E. E. Lang who has been confined to his bed since Jan. 23, due to a stroke of paralysis, paralyzing his right side. He bore this affliction as well as he could and was cared for by his devoted wife and children. Mr. Lang conducted the meat market here for a number of years and served on the town council for 17 years. He was president of the fair association for three years. He commenced to buy stock when young and continued in the business and gained the respect of all who knew him. He was a member of the M.W.A. lodge.
E. E. Lang was born in Lodomillo township, Dec. 23, 1855. When a young man he moved to Fayette county, where Feb. 10, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Lois Chapman. They lived there eight years, then came to town where they have since resided. Nine children blessed this union, two of which preceded their father in death. Besides the wife the remaining children, Nick, Cheek, and Miss Ola of this place, Mrs. Domna Taylor and Mrs. Myrtle O'Neal of Cedar Rapids, Ed., Jr., of Montreal, Canada, and Will of Kansas City and fifteen grandchildren mourn his death. Besides these he leaves four brothers and two sisters, namely: I. E. Lang of Lamont; Leon and Charles of Cass Lake, Minn.; James Lang of Cottage Grove, Minn.; Mrs. Edith Gladwin and Mrs. Emma Harkins of Strawberry Point, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning when a large number of relatives and friends went to pay their last sad respects to a man respected by the entire community. The services were conducted by Rev. C. H. True, an old friend of the family, of Edgewood, assisted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, pastor of the M.E. church. The four sons were the pall bearers. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery.
