Clayton County Register, Thur., 28 June 1928.
Dan Lucy, son of Cornelius and Bridget Lucey, was born on a farm near Littleport, Iowa, February 18, 1872, the youngest of a family of seven children. He is survived by one brother, Michael, two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Michael and Miss Mary Lucey, all of Edgewood.
His early schooling was received in the rural districts of Lodomillo township, Clayton County, Iowa. He finished his course at the Bayless Business College at Dubuque. For several years following he was one of the successful teachers of the county, and also Sioux City, Iowa.
At an early age in life he was the victim of a serious runaway accident. All that medical skill could do could not alleviate his troubles and in early manhood he became the victim of epilepsy.
The condition soon impaired his health to the extent that it necessitated his giving up the work of his chosen profession. As the years rolled on his condition became ever more serious and the diligent care given him by his sister Mary, with whom he made his home, was taxed to capacity. On February 22, 1924, he was committed to the State Hospital at Independence.
The remains were brought to Edgewood with funeral services at St. Mark's church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Murtagh. Burial was made in the Littleport cemetery, by the side of his parents who preceded him in death many years ago.
