Arletta Darlene Hankes, age 89, of Dingesville, IA, died Friday, April 10, 2020, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Arletta was born November 4, 1930 to John Wesley and Maude (Monroe) Welsh at their home in Graham, IA. She was one of seven children.

On September 2, 1948, Arletta was united in marriage with James Hankes and their marriage blessed them with 6 children.

When she was able, Arletta enjoyed doing yard work at her home, going to Bingo, and visiting with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. In her downtime, she could always be found watching Westerns, Wheel of Fortune, or Days Of Our Lives and doing word searches.

Arletta will be forever loved and cherished by her 6 children, James (Jane Thein) Hankes Jr, Roxy (Leonard) Knockel, Julie (Jim) Trappe, Brenda (Dennis) Fassbinder, Mark (Dawn) Hankes, and Lisa (Tom) Weddel; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. One sister Peg Bangs. Many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Arletta was honored to have a bonus son and daughter Ed Van Lennep and Judy (Doerr) Greve.

Arletta was preceded in death by her parents; husband James, 2 sisters Vanita (Welsh) Hines and Beverly (Welsh) Helm, 3 brothers Gerald Welsh, Leland Welsh, & Bill Welsh.

In Lieu of any style of sympathy, the family request memorials to benefit The Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Bethel Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.

There will be a private family service and interment. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
