Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 07 Jul. 1910.
Theresa Lamm was born August 21st, 1836, in Erie county, New York, near the city of Buffalo. Her parents, Arbogast and Maria Ann Lamm had come to this country from Germany in 1832. In 1853 they came to Clayton county and settled in Wagner township.
Here in January, 1856, she was married to Louis Reuther, who at that time was in the cabinet-making business with H. C. Grotewohl.
Shortly after their marriage they removed to Dubuque, where they lived until 1858, when they returned to Elkader. Mr. Reuther became quite successful in business and prominent in politics.
Retiring from business in 1876 he went with Mrs. Reuther to Europe for an extended visit and it is thought while there he contracted the disease which finally caused his death August 4th, 1879.
May 9th, 1882, Mrs. Reuther married George Stich and they lived together happily until his death in May, 1889.
Mrs. Stich had no children, but several nieces and nephews have received almost a mother's love and care from her.
Something over a year ago she was stricken with paralysis, but recovered to a large extent. Monday morning, July 4th, she was apparently as well as she had been for some time, but shortly after noon another stroke came and she passed away about 1:00 o'clock.
Three sisters and three brothers are left to mourn her death. They are: Mrs. Mary Higgins, Decorah; Mrs. Elizabeth Schaefer, Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Celia Steier, Decorah; Joseph Lamm, Elkader; Henry Lamm, Harlan, Iowa; and Ed Lamm, of Watertown, S.D. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her kindness and love.
The funeral was held Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Reilly saying solemn high mass at St. Joseph's church, after which she was laid to rest in the East Side cemetery beside her husband Louis Reuther.
Those from abroad who attended the funeral were Mrs. Mary Higgins, Mrs. Celia Steier, Mrs. Louise Hanson and Mrs. Kate Slitor and daughter, of Decorah; Ed Lamm, of Watertown, S.D., and Henry Schaefer, of Prestno, Minn.
One by one the reaper gathers the harvest to himself and Mrs. Stich, through a life of more than average length, has missed and mourned many a friend, so now there are many who will miss her. Universally respected by all for her sterling qualities of character, those who knew her intimately will miss the keen mind, the sympathetic friendship, and motherly love she reserved for the inner circle of her friends and relatives.
