Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 09 June 1910.

Hannah Scheer, nee Clark, was born in Ohio July 30th, 1844, and came to Iowa when a child and has ever made this state her home, living in the country a portion of the time, but for many years her home has been in Elkader.

Her mother, being a follower of the meek and lowly Jesus, early instructed her in the Christian virtues, and one precept of her life steadily adhered to was "With malice toward none, with charity for all."

It mattered not how wrongfully her actions were construed, she felt the inner consciousness of doing the best she knew, and the Golden Rule was her guide. All her life she labored to rear her family and never knew how to be idle. She was always ready to respond to any call for aid to her friends, either day or night. Her home was always open to those who sought a refuge, and especially to her children. No matter what troubles arose, they found a shelter in their mother's bosom.

Nothing could more perfectly attest the love and devotion they bore to her than to see how, at the first intimation of her fatal illness, they all left their homes and occupations and hastened to her bedside to offer all the consolation possible in her last hours, even though many miles away.

She was the mother of twelve children, two having died in infancy, the remaining ten having attained manhood and womanhood, and all having families of their own., were, with one exception, present to soothe and comfort her in her dying hours.

Those present were Mary, from Sioux Falls, S.D.; Hugh, from Salt Lake City, Utah; Bell, from McGregor, Iowa; Hannah, from Evans, Wash.; Emma, from Sheffield, Iowa; Ida, from Boardman Township, Iowa; Lena, from Wilmot, S.D.; Rosa, from Aberdeen, S.D.; Emil, from Salt Lake, Utah; John, of Salt Lake, Utah, was unable to be present.

Besides her children she leaves one sister and two brothers to mourn her loss.

Many of the people of Elkader owe her a debt of gratitude for favors she has granted. Many an eye will drop a tear of regret as we realize that our friend is no more. (Well will it to be for us if it can be said of us as it is of her "She hath done what she could.")

The funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon in the Congregational church, which was filled with friends and neighbors of the deceased. Rev. Wyatt, of McGregor, conducted the services, Rev. Franke assisting, after which she was laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.
