Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 17 Mar. 1910. Strawberry Point column.
John Adam Huebsch was born in Bindlach, Bavaria September 8th, 1837. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Then for a few years he worked in his home town, and in 1854, he, with his parents, one brother and three sisters came to America, locating in Dubuque first and later coming to St. Sebald. Here he was among the first settlers and went through the hardships of the early pioneer life.
On the 2_th of June, 1865, he was married to Miss Maria Burkhard. To this happy union were born eight children, three of whom preceded their father in death.
Several years ago he felt the first signs of heart trouble, but was always able to be up and around. About two weeks ago he took sick with lagrippe, which threatened to turn into pneumonia. Although this was suppressed, his heart trouble became worse until on Tuesday morning at 4:00 o'clock he passed away peacefully at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Mr. Huebsch was a man highly respected by all who knew him, an honest and straight-forward man and a true christian. He was a faithful and conscientious member of our church, always looking out for its welfare and for many years acted as one of its deacons.
Funeral services were held at St. Sebald Lutheran church Thursday, Mar. 3rd, conducted by Rev. Fuehr. Interment was made in St. Sebald cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, four sons, John, Carl, William and Michael, one daughter, Marie, eleven grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. A good man has gone to his reward. May he rest in peace.
A Friend.
