Sisters Die Same Day at McGregor
Two widely known McGregor sisters died within five hours of each other Sunday night, Dec. 8, at the McGregor hospital. They were Dr. Alice May Clark Brooks, 85, and her sister, Miss Florence Clark, 83.Miss Florence Clark was born May 28, 1874, at McGregor. She was graduated from McGregor high school in 1891 and taught school in the Dakotas and Arizona before returning to McGregor many years ago. She and her sister made their home together since last summer.
Miss Clark died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday. She had been a patient in the hospital since Thanksgiving day.
Miss Clark wrote hundreds of feature stores of northeast Iowa for various publications. She was honored by the people of McGregor, Dec. 12, 1956, at a testimonial tea for her many years of telling the rest of the world about the McGregor area.
Survivors of both sisters include one sister, Ethel Bickel of Fort Worth, Texas.
Double funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Pilkington Funeral home in McGregor with Rev. W.O. Crosby, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
