MIELKE, ZENK, ZEULKA, ELET, GLISTER, SAUTTER

Funeral services for Otto Herman Mielke, 73, were held last Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Schultz Funeral Home to the Methodist church at 1:45 o'clock with Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer officiating.

Burial was in the City cemetery.

Mr. Mielke died at the Prairie du Chien General hospital Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, at 11:40 o'clock following surgery. He was taken to the hospital Saturday, Nov. 23, after a short illness.

He was born a son of Fred and Wihemina, nee Zenk*, Mielke at Lauenburg, Pommern, Germany, Aug. 29, 1884.

He was educated in Germany before coming to the United States in 1900. He lived in Allamakee county until he moved to a farm east of Monona at the time of his marriage, May 28, 1914, to Selma Elet. They retired from the farm during World war II and went to Rockford, Ill., where they lived for 2 1/2 years. They retired to Monona after that. They have served as custodians at the Methodist church for the last several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and sisters in Germany, an infant brother in Monona, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Gilster in Monona.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, Raymond and Gerald of Monona; and a niece and a nephew, Alvin Gilster of Monona and Dorothy Gilster, now Mrs. Jake Sautter of Mauston, Wis., who made their home with him after the death of their mother; two brothers, Leo of Rockford, Ill., and William of Froelich; and four grandchildren.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. George Martin and Mrs. Ben Frese Jr. Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz was the organist.

Honorary pallbearers were: Rudolph Bugenhagen, Fred Funk, Karl Erb, Harry Debes, William Hubacher, and John Lenth.

Active pallbearers were: Vern Zieman, Charles Ulish, Emil Aulerich, Ben Meyer, Fred Hass, Walter Duwe, Alvin Marting and E.G. Kaiser.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mielke, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Mielke and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mielke of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Jake Sautter of Mauston, Wis.; Mrs. Jake Elet of Beloit, Wis.; and Mrs. Clifford Trickle of Footville, Wis.
