Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Dec. 1914.
Gunder W. Thompson died at Hot Springs, Arkansas, Dec. 23rd, 1914, aged forty-three years, eleven months and three days. He was taken sick Nov. 29th with congestion of the liver, ending in paralysis.
Deceased was born in Wagner township January 20th, 1871, the son of William and Barbara Thompson. His life was spent on the old home farm until August 1900. Then he went to Hot Springs, making his home there until his death. His brother Herbran, of Farmersburg, was with him the week previous to his death and brought his remains to Farmersburg, Dec. 28th, the funeral occurring the same day. A short service was held at the home of his brother, Lars W. Thompson, and then at the Norway church, Rev. Arveson officiating, after which he was laid to rest in the Norway church cemetery. A choir from Farmersburg sang two very appropriate songs at the home and the choir of the Norway church sang at the church and the grave.
Mr. Thompson is survived by five brothers and one sister: Thov., of St. Louis; Hans and Rachel, of Hot Springs, Ark.; Herbran and Lars, of Farmersburg, besides many friends who extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
He was early baptized and confirmed in the Norway congregation. He sought peace in Jesus, guidance in the word of God and strength for his journey through the valley of death in the sacrament of the Lord.
"Fare ye well, beloved friends !
Ye whose tears so fast are flowing.
God for all will make amends,
For our griefs are his bestowing.
Mourn not joys that can't endure,
Heavenly joys alone are sure."(Note: This article says he is survived by five brothers and one sister, but only four brothers and one sister are named. The submitter has no explanation.)
