Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 03 Dec. 1914.

Fred Schneider, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schneider, of this township, died at the Sanitarium at Prairie du Chien, (Wis.), Wednesday afternoon, November 25th, at five o'clock, aged eighteen years, eleven months and five days.

The young man had suffered from several attacks of appendicitis and finally an operation was decided upon. Saturday, Nov. 21st, accompanied by his father, he went to Prairie du Chien and the operation was performed that day. While conditions were not found to be the best it was considered that his chances of recovery were good and he seemed to be getting along all right, until the Tuesday evening following, when there came a change for the worse. His father, who was there, summoned the mother, who hurried to him on the first train.

Deceased was born in Highland township, December 20th, 1895, and a few years later moved to Boardman township with his parents. Here he grew to young manhood and was a general favorite with all who knew him. He was a member of the last confirmation class of the German church but sickness at that time prevented his confirmation with the class and he was confirmed on Easter Sunday.

His remains were brought to Elkader on Thanksgiving Day and taken to the home of his parents. The funeral services occurred Saturday, conducted by Rev. Franke, and he was laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.

His parents, two brothers, two sisters and his aged grandfather, with numerous other relatives, mourn his untimely death.
