Caroline Marie Sophia Staden was born on March 13th, 1836, in Mueggenburg, Germany. As a young woman she was united in marriage with Christian Rohn. In the year 1867 the couple came to America and settled first in Clayton Center. After they lived in Read township seventeen years they moved to Boardman township. On December 29th, 1902, Mrs. Rohn was stricken with paralysis. Two months later, on February 22nd, 1903, her husband passed away, and also two grown children, Mrs. Ida Hamann and Henry Rohn.
During the twelve years of her helplessness Mrs. Rohn made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Louise Ehrhardt, where she received the best of care, death finally summoning her on the evening of November 24th, aged 78 years, eight months and eleven days.
One son, John Rohn, of Elberta, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. August Beyer, of Postville, and Mrs. George Ehrhardt, of Elkader; twenty-two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives mourn her death.
The funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the German church, Rev. Franke officiating, and she was laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.
