Dorothy M. Nuehring, 74, Monona, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at her residence following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial followed at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Mary was born July 21, 1930, in Farmersburg, to Roy and Effie (Martins) Saacke. Dorothy received her education at Gooding Country School through the eighth grade, Farmerburg High School through eleventh grade, and then graduated with the Monona Class of 1949.
She was united in marriage to Marlyn Nuehring November 20, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. Four children were born to this union.
Dorothy worked with her husband on the farm. For many years, she was a florist at the Monona Greenhouse and worked in the Monona City Clerk's office for eight years. Dorothy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Marlyn of Monona; her children, Janita (Steve) Doeppke of Elkader, Kevin (Chris) Nuehring of Farmersburg, Arlen (Kila) Nuehring of Monona, and Colleen (Gary) Schellhammer of Waukon; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette (LuVerne) Krambeer of Monona and Ramona (John) Hoyem of Des Moines; and one brother, Robert (Joyce) Saacke of Farmersburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren, William Doeppke, Shane Doeppke, Keith Nuehring, Kilyn Nuehring, Grant Doeppke, and Shawn Schellhammer. Honorary casketbearers were her grandchildren, Stacey and Sara Schellhammer, Shantra and Kayleen Nuehring and Chad Dousanek, members of her card club, LaVerne and Norma Landt, Sam and JoAnne Gisleson, Ron and Marjorie Schroeder, and Idella Landt, as well as Dorothy's neighbors.
