Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 09 Sept. 1914.

A death which affected a large community and particularly Elkport, was that of Mrs. Dan Collins, formerly Miss Alice McMorrow, who passed away at Forrest City, Thursday, Aug. 25th, 1914.

Mrs. Collins was born in Elkport, Clayton County, Iowa, March 14th, 1874. She received her education in the Elkport High School, graduating with the class of 1898. She taught in the public schools of Clayton and Sioux Counties for a period of eight years.

She was united in marriage on October 17th, 1905, At St. Michael's church, Elkport, to Mr. Dan Collins, of Dubuque. They resided in Dubuque one year, then returned to the old homestead, where she spent her girlhood days. In March, 1914, they moved to Forest City, where they resided at the time of her death.

Five children blessed this union, Rita, Mary, Joseph, Clare and an infant baby, who preceded her in death; also her broken hearted husband, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Flynn, of Colesburg, Iowa; Mrs. Josie Rupple, of Decorah, Iowa; and Mrs. Margaret Hall, of Strawberry Point, Iowa.

In her years upon earth Mrs. Collins had typified the Christian woman, always kind and cheerful and considerate of others. She was noted for her unselfish devotion and home loving disposition. She made her influence felt for the betterment of those with whom she came in contact.

The little babe who knew no mother love on this earth was waiting to welcome her and open the gates of heaven, and so shall she be ready to receive her kind and loving husband, her loving children, and sisters when God calls them home.

The funeral services, which were conducted at St. Michal's church, Elkport, at ten o'clock Thursday morning, were largely attended. Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Father Minogue, who delivered a most fitting and eloquent eulogy.

In brief he said death is a thing we must all meet. It comes to the rich and poor, the young and the old.

Mrs. Collins was a devoted Catholic, a true and noble type of Christian womanhood.

(Note: There followed a long list of out of town funeral attendees, none of whom were noted as relations of any type.)
