Elkader Register & Argus, 23 Jul. 1914. Guttenberg column.
On Saturday morning at 12:30 o'clock, at her home in this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Maria Garloff, after a week's illness, the cause of her death being mostly due to old age. Deceased was born in Germany on March 17th, 1843, and later came to the United States. Her husband preceded her in death a number of years ago. The family lived on a farm south of town for a number of years and later came to Guttenberg, where deceased lived until her death. She was 71 years, 3 months and 24 days of age at the time of her death. She was a kind and true woman and was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran church. Her death is deeply mourned by one daughter, Mrs. John Reis, of Dubuque, four step-children and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran church Monday afternoon, Rev. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
