Elkader Register & Argus, 16 Jul. 1914. Elkport and Vicinity column.

On Monday afternoon word was received here of the death of Miss Lucy Costigan, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Costigan, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, her death being caused by an abscess on the brain. Lucy had been sick about four months, but her condition was not considered serious. She had the very best of medical treatment, but still she did not improve very rapidly. Last Friday she was taken to the State Hospital, at Iowa City, for treatment but she died soon after reaching there. The remains were shipped to Strawberry Point Tuesday afternoon. Lucy was but twenty-four years of age and of a very kind and loving disposition. She was always ready to do a kind deed for anyone. She will indeed be greatly missed by her many friends, her mother, father, sisters and brothers. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Wm. Those who are left to mourn her are her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Costigan; her sisters, Mary, Laura and Alice; and her brothers, Raymond, James Philip and Leonard, besides many other relatives, all of whom have our deepest sympathy.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Strawberry Point Wednesday morning. She was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Cresco, Iowa, beside her two brothers. May she rest in Peace !
