Austin Slick, 88, lifelong resident of the Earlville vicinity, died at his home at 2:30 PM Tuesday after a serious illness of more than a month.
For many years he farmed at Almoral, moving to Earlville when he retired. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Congregational Church for 42 yrs, and was a choir member of the Almoral and Earlville churches for sixty years.
Last year his 87th birthday, was observed wtih a open house at his home. He was born Sept 28, 1867 in Clayton County.
In 1880 he and Wilma Gertrude Armitage were married at Almoral. After her death in 1901, he was again married May 1, 1906 to Emma Merten. The second Mrs. Slick died June 20, 1952.
Survivors include eight children: Mrs. Ed Ammons of Waterloo; Henry of Monroe, Wisc; Glen of Cedar Rapids, Mrs Arthur Holbrook of Creston; Dan of Masonville; Dean of Earlville; Mrs. Herbert Winistorfer of Waterloo, and Mrs. Lewis Liobe of Waterloo. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs Percy Davis and a son John Merten Slick. Funeral services will be today (Thursday) at 1:30 pm at the Earlville Congregational church with the Rev. A.D. McKeith officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
