Former Guttenberg Resident Summoned
_______The death of William Greenwaldt, a former highly respected resident of Guttenberg, occurred at his home at Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Saturday at the age of 66 years and 10 months, after an illness of two weeks duration.
Deceased was born at Guttenberg, Iowa, on January 5, 1861, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Greenwaldt. He attended school and grew to manhood here. He was married at Guttenberg to Miss Augusta Prior. A number of years ago the family went to Hartley, Iowa, where Mr. Greenwaldt engaged in the banking business. After residing at Hartley for some time, he and his family went to Welcome, Minnesota, where the deceased was engaged in the banking business for a number of years. Of late years Mr. and Mrs. Greenwaldt have been residents of Minneapolis, where Mr. Greenwaldt was successfully engaged in the grocery business.
Mr. Greenwaldt was a man of a pleasing personality, one who had the respect of all who knew him.
The body was brought to Guttenberg for burial on Tuesday and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Abel in this city. Funeral services were held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church in this city on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Emil Lehne officiating. The body was laid to rest in the City cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Esther Thomas, of Oxford, Indiana; two grandchildren; two brothers, August Greenwaldt, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Arthur Greenwaldt, of Neptune, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. E. H. Abel, of Guttenberg, and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true man will be sadly missed.
