Thursday, 24 July 1924, Guttenberg Press, p1, c2:

MRS. CORNELIA OHLENDORF.

“Death ended the suffering of Mrs. Cornelia Ohlendorf, prominent Remsen woman early last Sunday morning, after a four months illness with nephritis and complications with which she suffered severely. She was 48 years old, and is survived by two daughters, two brothers, and seven sisters. The funeral was held form St. Mary’s Catholic church Wednesday morning.

“Mrs. Ohlendorf was in ill health for some time, but about fifteen weeks ago her condition began to grow worse and she went to a LeMars hospital for special treatments. She remained at the institution for six weeks and her condition began to show some improvement. After six weeks she was returned to her home where she was under constant medical care until the day of her death.

“Cornelia Koss-Ohlendorf was a daughter of William and Martha Koss, and was born on a farm in Clayton county, Iowa, August 24, 1875. She spent her early life with her parents, and was married on February 10, 1897, to John A. Ohlendorf, also of that vicinity. The marriage took place in the town of Guttenberg, Iowa. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Ohlendorf located on a farm near Guttenberg, where they remained for a period of eight years, and then retired and moved to Remsen in 1905. Mr. Ohlendorf passed away in January, 1920.

“The deceased was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, and was an active worker for every cause in the interest of the church. She was a kind mother, staunch friend, and a good Christian all her life, and enjoyed the esteem of a very large circle of friends both here and in eastern Iowa, all of whom sincerely regret to learn of her early departure from this life. The family has the sincerest sympathy of the entire community.

“She is survived by two daughters, Hattie, now Mrs. Raphael Arnold, of Cherokee county, and Lucy, who has been living with her mother. There are also two brothers and seven sisters.

“Mrs. Ohlendorf was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, also of the local court of the women’s Catholic Order of Foresters, the members of both organizations attending the funeral in a body. The funeral was held yesterday morning at 9 o’clock, Rev. Father James Greteman officiating. Pall bearers were: Henry Offerman, Henry Daldrup, John Schnieders, Nick Treinen, J. P. Mersch, and Harry Tritz. Flower bearers were: Mrs. John Schnieders, Mrs. J. H. Ahmann, Mrs. Clare Haye, Mrs. Vara [sic] Siemonsma [sic], Mrs. A. Paschke, and Mrs. T. C. Nothem.

“Among those who attended the last sad rites were: Mrs. John Petsche, Mr. and Mrs. J. Mahowald and M. L. Wolter, Mrs. Math Wolter, Mrs. R. Wolter and Mrs. Math Weber, of Guttenberg, Iowa; Mrs. Lillian Gleason, Chicago; Raymond Weber, Traer, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scholly, Cleghorn; Mrs. Agnes Kirchoff, Cherokee; Mrs. Frank Becheler, Sioux City.

“One sister, Mrs. Gleason, was here for several weeks during the deceased’s last illness.”—Remsen Bell-Enterprise.
