John Ohlendorf Dead.
_______Old Resident Expires After Long Illness With Cancer.
We take the following from a Remsen, Iowa, newspaper:
Death came last Sunday afternoon to relieve John Ohlendorf, a resident of Remsen for many years, from a length illness with cancer of the stomach. Mr. Ohlendorf passed away at his home shortly after 3 o’clock. He was 57 years old.
John Andreas Ohlendorf was a son of Henry and Wilhelmina Ohlendorf, and was born on March 21, 1862, in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa. he remained in his home until 1906, when he came to Remsen with his family. He was married in 1897 in Clayton county to Miss Cornelia Koss, and to this union two children were born, namely Hattie and Lucy, who with their mother survive the deceased. Besides these he is survived by one brother, Fred Ohlendorf, and many other relatives. The deceased was received into the Lutheran church in his infancy and was confirmed at the age of 14 years, in the Ev. Luth. St. John’s church at Guttenberg, Iowa. Upon his arrival in Remsen he joined Christ Lutheran church and was a faithful member of this church up to his death.
Two years ago Mr. Ohlendorf became seriously ill with cancer of the stomach and was a constant sufferer up to the time of his death. An operation failed to give relief and he grew weaker as the weeks went on.
His death is a distinct shock to the kind and loving wife and children, and his friends, of whom there were many, are grieved over his too early departure.
The funeral was held this afternoon with services in Christ Lutheran church, Rev. Fred Wahlers officiating.
His nephews acted as pallbearers as follows: William Vogt, Herman William, John, Albert and Henry Ohlendorf.
Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Matt Webber and son Raymond, William and Rose Vogt, Mrs. John Petsche, all of Guttenberg, A. Granes and family, Mrs. Henke, C. Blietz and wife, Henry Ohlendorf and wife, Ben Ohlendorf and wife, Will and John Ohlendorf, all of Marcus.
